OSHA investigates fuel storage tank

Funeral arrangements have been made for Timothy Haas, the Auburn Township 17-year-old who died Friday night after entering a fuel storage tank while attempting to save his father's life. A memorial service has been set for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Holy Angels, 18205 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge Township, Auburn Township Fire Chief John Phillips said. All of this comes as the Occupational Safety & Health Administration started its investigation into the incident, said Phillips, who confirmed the federal agency was at the site Monday.
Separate from any possible criminal investigation, OSHA likely is looking into exactly what occurred, safety practices and the cause for a loss of life, Phillips said. A call to OSHA's after-hours line attempting to verify the nature of its investigation was not returned. Phillips said OSHA's involvement is standard for incidents of this nature.
