HIPAA Ignored by NBC Clinic Drama

The HIPAA-conscious are reacting negatively to "Inconceivable," a new NBC drama slated to run Fridays at 10 p.m. though it's just a TV show, but in addition to offending those who've undergone in vitro fertilizations as well as clinicians and staff in fertility clinics.A recent Seattle Times article talked with Steph Watts, 42, a fertility patient who derided the show's content.Patients seeking to have babies enter a world of petri dishes, sperm collection cups and -- as NBC puts it -- a clinic staff enmeshed in "sex, deception and secrets."Watts and two other fertility patients, a psychiatrist who counsels fertility patients and several doctors at Seattle Reproductive Medicine gathered to preview the show. Their consensus was that the program was inaccurate, misleading and unrealistic.
