Health record privacy rules may get tighter

A bill being considered in a New Hampshire House committee seeks to tighten health information privacy regulations. The tougher state rules would not replace, but rather go beyond, the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA.

State Rep. Cindy Rosenwald, D-Nashua, sponsored the legislation, House Bill 1587, and last month spoke in support of it before the House Committee on Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs, of which she is a member.
