American Ecology Idaho Subsidiary to Receive OSHA Safety Recognition

(March 15, 2007) -- American Ecology Corporation (NASDAQ: ECOL) today announced that its subsidiary, US Ecology Idaho, has been designated by the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) "Star" company for its exceptional safety record and training programs. The "Star" designation is OSHA's highest level of safety recognition.

At a ceremony tomorrow at the company's Grand View hazardous waste facility, OSHA Regional Administrator Richard Terrill will award US Ecology Idaho employees a banner, plaque and Voluntary Protection Program flag commemorating their achievement.

In announcing US Ecology Idaho's designation as a "Star" site, Edwin G. Foulke, Jr. (Assistant Secretary for Occupational Health and Safety) said, "You join an elite group of facilities that provide exemplary safety and health protection. Designation as a VPP Star participant is a testament to sustained excellence in all areas of your safety and health management system. Please accept my hearty congratulations on this noteworthy achievement."

"Safety is a core value at American Ecology," Stephen Romano, President and Chief Executive Officer stated, adding, "We intend to maintain this recognition through a continuing commitment to safety at all levels of our organization."

"US Ecology takes a proactive approach to safety that involves each employee doing his or her part to make sure that no one gets hurt on the job," concluded American Ecology Health and Safety Director Terry Geis.
