Proofpoint Announces Industry's Most Advanced Single-appliance Solution for Policy-based Email Encryption

(April 11, 2007)--Proofpoint announced an enhanced version of its policy-driven email encryption solution, Proofpoint Secure Messaging. The new product is the first of its kind to offer fully integrated email content filtering and policy-based encryption on a single, easy-to-deploy appliance or virtual appliance. Proofpoint Secure Messaging is ideal for organizations in the healthcare, financial services, government and other sectors that need to protect sensitive data while still making that data readily available to appropriate affiliates, business partners and end users.

Proofpoint Secure Messaging and Proofpoint's advanced content filtering modules-Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance and Proofpoint Digital Asset Security-work together to deliver powerful, policy-driven encryption features to the Proofpoint Protection Server software and Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway appliance. Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance identifies and protects private data, helping organizations comply with a wide variety of data protection and privacy regulations including HIPAA and GLBA. Proofpoint Digital Asset Security keeps valuable assets and confidential information from leaking outside the organization via email.

The new version of Proofpoint Secure Messaging is fully integrated with Proofpoint's messaging security platform and requires no additional hardware to filter, route and encrypt messages. Powered by Voltage IBE technology, it automatically and dynamically encrypts outbound email based on customizable policies, right at the email gateway. As a result, encryption policies are accurately and consistently applied and end users do not need to take any special actions to ensure that messages are properly encrypted.

Proofpoint Secure Messaging combines advanced message content filtering, routing and encryption on one appliance, eliminating the need for email routing between separate content scanning and encryption devices. This breakthrough approach reduces hardware costs while improving performance and reliability.

As in Proofpoint's anti-spam, anti-virus and content security modules, secure messaging policies and encryption options are managed and enforced from a single location, using the Proofpoint Messaging Security Console. Proofpoint's unified master-agent architecture ensures that changes made through the centralized administration console are automatically pushed to any number of agent servers, even across globally distributed Proofpoint deployments.

Improved integration with the desktop encryption client allows messages that were encrypted at the desktop to be decrypted, inspected for content security policies and re-encrypted at the gateway before transmission. The new version is also compatible with Proofpoint's virtual appliance (the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway-Virtual Edition), allowing enterprises to deploy a complete secure messaging solution entirely on virtual infrastructure.
